Kazakhstan Deposit Insurance Fund (KDIF)
2026-03-19
JSC AB "Bank of China Kazakhstan" is a participant in the mandatory deposit guarantee system.

What does the KDIF Fund guarantee
The objects of mandatory deposit guarantees are the participant bank's obligations to repay depositors, in the event of the revocation of its banking license to conduct all types of operations, deposits in tenge and foreign currency held in bank accounts and certified by bank account and/or bank deposit agreements, and interest on such deposits accrued on the date of revocation of the participant bank's banking license to conduct all types of operations, within the limits of the guaranteed compensation amounts.
In the event of the revocation of a participant bank's banking license to conduct all types of operations, the total amount of deposits subject to guaranteed compensation by the KDIF Fund is calculated as the sum of the deposit balances, taking into account the maximum guaranteed compensation limits established for each type of deposit:
- 20 million tenge for savings deposits in national currency;
- 10 million tenge for cards, accounts, and other deposits in national currency;
- 5 million tenge for cards, accounts, and deposits in foreign currency (equivalent to the exchange rate established on the date of revocation of the participating bank's banking license).
If a depositor has several different types of guaranteed deposits at a single participating bank, the Kazakhstan Deposit Insurance Fund will pay a combined guarantee compensation up to the maximum guarantee compensation established for each type of deposit, but no more than 20 million tenge.
If your savings exceed this amount, you can open an additional deposit with another bank. This will protect you from the risk of loss, as funds deposited in multiple banks are guaranteed separately for each bank.
If your savings exceed the maximum guarantee amount at the time of revocation of the bank's license, the remaining amount can be recovered from the liquidation commission.
What the Kazakhstan Deposit Insurance Fund does not guarantee
The following are not covered by the Kazakhstan Deposit Insurance Fund:
- metal accounts of individuals;
- Cash and valuables deposited in safe deposit boxes;
- Deposit certificates;
- Deposits by legal entities;
- Deposits placed in Islamic banks, including branches of foreign Islamic banks opened in Kazakhstan.
Compensation Payment: What to Remember?
The maximum guarantee amount depends on the type and currency of the deposit.
For savings deposits in tenge – no more than 20 million tenge
For other deposits in tenge – no more than 10 million tenge
For deposits in foreign currency – no more than 5 million tenge
The total guarantee compensation for depositors holding several different types of deposits at a participating bank simultaneously is no more than 20 million tenge, subject to the maximum compensation limits established for each type of deposit.
Your savings are automatically guaranteed from the moment the agreement with the bank is concluded, and the depositor does not need to do anything else.
The KGIF pays compensation with the interest accrued on the date of the bank's license revocation. The KGIF calculates and pays compensation for foreign currency deposits in tenge, at the market exchange rate on the date of the bank's license revocation.
